Ruby: A Glorious Life

I just published a second book about Ruby, my friend Davy's Parson Jack Russell Terrier, who passed away on 12/23/09. The book captures his precious memories and photographs of her glorious life.

I'm thrilled he gave me the opportunity to create this beautiful pet memoir for him. It's a beautiful photo journal he'll cherish for a lifetime.

Tribute to a Loved One

I'm a big fan of self-publishing. It gives people the opportunity to actually publish their own book - a memoir - to preserve life's most precious moments. In this digital age, why bother pasting photos in a scrapbook when you can actually have a book created with your favorite photographs and memories to share with family and friends.

When my brother passed away on January 5, 2008, I wrote a tribute to read at his funeral entitled "Angel of Joy". The "joy" part of the title came easily since Jerry's joyous spirit was contagious; he made everyone laugh.

But, the real inspiration came from his five year-old grandson, Hunter, who asked, "Will a rocket ship take Papa to heaven?"

After considerable encouragement, I created a book including his eulogy and a little story I wrote about his arrival in heaven. "Angel of Joy" is my gift to his family to celebrate Jerry's spirit and to give them comfort. My hope is that anyone - child or adult - who has lost a loved one would also find comfort in this short tale.

Pet Memoir

I'm a writer. After years in marketing and advertising, I now write stories for myself - some are fictional; some are memoirs for family and friends.

Last year, I self-published a short tale, "Tao of Ruby", the story of my friend Davy's 17 year-old Parson Jack Russell terrier. The inspiration came when I received a heartwrenching e-mail from him telling of her passing (or so he thought at the time). It was so full of raw emotion that I decided to create a memoir for him immortalizing Ruby's glorious life.

I began editing his story when I received a second e-mail from Davy announcing, "Miracle of miracles...she's ALIVE!" Crying and laughing, we spoke and I shared my idea with him. He loved it, especially since Ruby was approaching her 18th birthday. He sent me photos and I began creating the book of her life. It was completed six weeks before Ruby's beautiful spirit left this earth. Davy loved it - especially with his name listed as the author. Afterall, it's his story.
